In the United States, migraine is more prevalent than asthma and diabetes--nearly 28 million Americans suffer from chronic and severe migraine attacks. Migraine is the most common cause of episodic disabling headache but is easily and often confused with sinus headache because of its frontal location. Patients with migraine can, and frequently do have other primary headache disorders such as episodic tension-type headaches that need to be treated.
Research has shown that migraine can be a progressive condition that worsens over time meaning that migraines can lead to more migraines. At Neurology Indiana, our neurologists elicit careful headache histories, perform detailed neurological assessments, order imaging and other studies as needed and use preventative and interdisciplinary therapies in treating patients. We are using both traditional and innovative therapies such as Botox© to help people overcome their headaches.
Our expert neurologists are trained to evaluate a broad range of other primary and secondary headache disorders ranging form cluster headache, and headache associated with infection (meningitis and encephalitis), other underlying process such as inflammatory disorders (e.g. temporal arteritis), brain tumors, or severe sudden onset headaches such as subarachnoid hemorrhages, venous sinus thrombosis and arterial dissections.
