Xabier Beristain, M.D.



Dr. Xabier Beristain grew up in the Basque Country of Northern Spain. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Basque Country. He completed his residency in Neurology at the Hospital de Cruces, Barakaldo, Spain.

He came to the United States in February 1994 to perform research at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). He repeated his internship at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. This was followed by a residency in Neurology at Indiana University where he also completed a fellowship in movement disorders.

Dr. Beristain has served on faculty at Indiana University for three years, dealing with patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease, tremor and other movement disorders. He has been active in selection and management of patients requiring brain surgery for Parkinson's, dystonia and tremor.

He is board certified in Neurology and sleep medicine. His professional interests include movement disorders and neurodegenerative brain diseases.

Dr. Beristain's hobbies include painting, cooking, traveling and watersports.
